I am going to build a 18'X24' concrete block building ,I have a good friend that will almost do it for nothing. But I am having trouble finding software to design it and print out the plans for the city permit.I could go to an architect but they will charge an arm and a leg.Anyone know of a software I can get that you can design with concrete block. Thanks

I researched the codes and took the city a detailed, pencil drawn set of plans and they were thrilled. My advice is to go down there and explain what you plan to do. Ask about what format they'd like the plans submitted in. Ask them what drawings that they require. And finally ask them the way that they prefer to conduct inspections, and any code particulars that they typically see messed up on a regular basis. This is a 30 min investment that may pay back later in reduced rework.
They will work with good homeowners and will be a pain to the unprepared and corner-cutters. That is what they are paid to do.
I submitted my drawings on 11x17" graph paper scaled 1/4" per foot. Pencil drew them and included some of the detail drawings that the city gave me during my research phase. My plans were approved with only one change, and there was no rework ordered.
Good luck on your project.
