Hey out there. I'm new to the forum and hoping for a little help.

I am just about done remodeling a home I've been working on for the last six years. The garage has been badly neglected and was poorly built. It's small, it has a piece of 14/2 romex for the electrical supply, and it floods if you spit in my lawn. The drive way is no picnic either. I'm planning a complete tear down of the current 18 X 18 building and putting up a 24 X 36 and sectioning the back half off to use as a storage area for my lawn-tractor and other lawn accessories. The rest of the garage will be man-cave central for my Tundra Quad cab, my Mac tools and a bar/TV area for me and the guys.

I was a mechanic for 10 years and my dad and I always had a cool garage. This is the first time I've had such pathetic car duds. Does anyone have any suggestions for cool and inexpensive garage interior decorating? I can't afford 10K$ in cabinetry after I spend 30 large or more on a building and driveway.

Thanks.

Have you considered used kitchen cabinets (check your bagin hunter) and some black paint! That's what I did. Nice setup for $500.00

Hey Hobie got a great deal on his and they look great.

Just shop around and keep your eyes open. I got some great cabinets for cost of moving them out of an old office being remodeled. Check with kitchen cabinet shops they may be doing some change outs in your town.

Thomask:

Those cabinets look great. Your mancave is coming along quite nicely. I'm going to put a roof on my old, crappy 18 X 18 "workshop" this fall. Hopefully, I can get a real garage built next year.

I've been working on it for 2 years now and it will be another year before I'm done.:(

I'd rather spend three years building the perfect garage than spend 6 months slapping some cheapo unit together and regretting all that I didn't do.

Although my garage is whack, I'm getting some things ready. I have most of the sound system built, with some nice Bose outdoor speakers, and a decent receiver I got off craigslist. I'm painting all of my toolboxes and whatnot the same shade of mac tools red. Once I get the new garage built, I'll just need to get cabinetry, shelving, and materials to build the bar/tapper set up.

Keep posting pics. Your garages are my motivation.

Thanks for the kind words...I'll remember that as I'm working towards completion. I'll be sure to post up the pics and story of my garage stereo system I'm working on too. I'll have to check as I think there is a thread on here for garage stereos.

HOBIE and Sircheddar: Doing it right will make you happiest in the long run.

No worries, hey I've been working on this house since December 1986....when the slab was poured. If I didn't enjoy it (?) I would have rented.

That is a great garage, it looks like it is dry, well lit, and roomy. Sure beats the driveway.

Those cabinets for $500 look like a great deal. I like the location too, I could use a setup like that. The more of those I could get put up and use to hold a decent amount of weight I would do away with the floor standing shelves.

Here are two pics of some of the cabinets I got for free! Just had to take them out of an office being remodeled. I got three tall doubles, three tall single doors and one half size double. Have been thinking of new ways to organize these in the remodel. ;)

I want to get everything up and off floor with all tools in cabinets. :D

Cleaning and organizing should be much easier and more room for two vehicles.

HOBIE: I note you put your cabinets on the side wall? Do you have some in front of your cars also? Note my garage ceiling is only 8'4" tall:confused:

I built some 23" tall cabinets above the projection screen ...boxed in the area by the ceiling. on the left hand side.

found some aluminum knobs at Lowes for the door pulls.
