A thief, who stole a garage door opener and a vehicle registration card from a car parked in an RTD Park-and-Ride lot, continued on to the owner's home where he ransacked more than $20,000 worth of loot.

Using the address on the registration card, the thief drove to the Centennial home, clicked the garage door open and made off with computers, cameras, jewelry and credit cards, said Capt. Mark Fisher of the Arapahoe County Sheriff's office.
"So far, we've tracked the credit cards to Aurora, Idaho Springs and Las Vegas," Fisher said.

Freaky...

Especially since I'm only about 20 miles north of Arapahoe County! I don't think it matters where you live, though. I subscribe to the "out of sight out of mind" philosophy." I always park in my garage at home, but when I'm out and about, I try to remember to hide the opener so I can't see it from outside the car. I think thieves are generally less likely to take the risk if they can't see the reward.

Makes sense.... a good idea is to use velcrow and velcro it under your steering wheel. Out of sight and a good place for it.

My garage clicker came with the ability to turn it into a key chain. It is now always with my keys. My wife's van has the built in buttons in the overhead console. I bet there are programmable remotes out there that you can buy that could be carried with your keys.

Yeah, I have one small remote, on my keychain. Its great. A feww times my lock on my house has frozen (it's really cold here) and I guess the hummidity levels in my house were heigh. Luckily I had my door opener and was able to go through the garage.

Here's another way to operate your garage door (among other things in your home) . It's kind of scary, but just as cool at the same time...

Interesting, I know I'd like to be able to open my garage door with my cell phone. I mean why not? I always have my cell phone with me.
